Check out the just released video for Oh Santa! by Mariah Carey. I love the vintage feel and Mariah looks gorgeous, Matt & I are both really enjoying it this morning! The girls in the beginning of the track kill me ‘Yo Santa!”
I’ll admit that I was kind of afraid to listen to Merry Christmas II You, fearing that it would be a total mess but it turns out that it is a really wonderful accompaniment to the 1994 release. She takes on Christmas classics like Charlie Brown Christmas and When Christmas Comes with style! There are just a couple of clunkers on the album, the ‘extra festive’ All I Want For Christmas was really unnecessary, as was the techno version of Auld Lange Syne. All in all it’s a wonderful album and will certainly get you in the mood for Christmas!
Wait we’re releasing Christmas songs already? It’s only October 1st! Anyhow, you should all know by now that Mariah Carey is releasing a second Christmas album appropriately called Merry Christmas II You and Oh Santa! is the first single from it.
If you’ve been following Hard Candy over the years you’ll probably have seen the odd post about Mariah’s first Christmas album Merry Christmas, that I consider to be the pinnacle of Christmas albums! Given my love for it, you’ll understand then that I was worried about this release tarnishing her Christmas legacy (haha) Well so far so good! It turns out this is fun little Christmas tune, but really was there any need for that silly intro Mariah? Who is that? Da Brat? Here’s hoping the rest of the album is good!
I love a good Mariah Carey remix so when I passed by the Chew Fu fix of H.A.T.E.U. (aka Having A Typical Emotional Upset) my intrigue was set on fire. The Fu’s also gave us those heavenly club mixes of I Want To Know What Love Is. It’s hot stuff, so enjoy + dance it out!

The official video (below) was filmed in one of my favorite locations in Malibu. There’s also an alternate clip which you can see here. What do we like better, Mariah crying it out or the explosions in the alternate cut? Anyone have a high quality version of this alternate ending album mix? – Matt
It’s never too early for a little ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS by (do I even need to type this? lol) MARIAH CAREY to start the Holiday season off right. A new remix of the track, originally recorded in ’94 takes Mariah and her sleigh bells to the dance floor (again!). Out of all the remixed versions that pop out every year…this proves to be the best so far – not including the iconic original which you can see the black and white video for below! It’s worth it just to see Mariah in her Nancy Sinatra getup! Love that choir! If you’ve lost or scratched your copy of the must have Holiday album Merry Christmas (which I always end up doing) pick it up here. - Matt
At first glance, I thought the Foreigner cover of I WANT TO KNOW WHAT LOVE IS was going to further push MARIAH CAREY into a ‘struggling to stay relevant’ artist. She proved us wrong, with a great vocal performance on the track (even though it really didn’t need to be covered) and some KILLER remixes that are hittin’ clubs now. My favorite is by Chew Fu – listen to them below! This is how you do a remix, great job guys! – Matt
MARIAH CAREY visited Oprah at her show in Central Park NYC on Friday. I wanted to go but much to my disappointment no-one I knew won tickets! She performed ‘I WANT TO KNOW WHAT LOVE IS‘ looking like she walked off the “Vision of Love” video set!
I’ve have had mixed feelings about Mariah’s version of this classic song, but I think its growing on me. She gave one of her best performances in recent memory (I guess now Whitney is back she has to up her game!) She even managed the “dog whistle” at the end of the song, probably enhanced a bit, but it almost felt like “Emotions” there for a quick second. I wonder if any garage doors opened?
I’ve been fighting MARIAH CAREY nostalgia/fever the past few weeks, listening to old tracks and reminiscing back to those days before the R&B era swallowed her into a black hole that i’m not sure she’ll ever completely crawl out of. SOMEDAY is one of those classic tracks that I will never get sick of. I’ve always preferred this particular remix to the album version, mainly because you can hear the last note for much longer and there are some extra synth’s in there.
