Hard Candy favorites Labyrinth Ear are the latest act we have tapped to create a mixtape exclusively for our series. It is our pleasure to present to you the ‘Magnolia‘ mixtapethat expertly fuses together some of the band’s favorite tracks of all time and some newer stuff that they are currently listening to. They’ve got everything in there from The Carpenters to Sonic Youth and M83… Say what?! Somehow this eclectic mix really works!
Labyrinth Ear had this to say about creating the mixtape…
“This mixtape is a culmination of everything we’ve been listening to currently. It’s a mixture of different genres and eras and styles, but I think somehow the mixture shares some similar qualities in the overall feel of the music. There’s some 90s hip hop, some classical, some chamber pop, some bangra, overall it’s a good representation of both of our tastes combined. We hope that you enjoy the mix as much as we did making it, and find it entertaining“
Make sure that you are following them on Twitter and Facebook for updates on their forthcoming EP and any other goodies they may drop between now and then! Also, don’t forget to check out their latest trackAmber if you missed it!

My latest mashup mix comes in the form of a dubbed out version of Rihanna‘s ‘Diamonds’ mashed up with the Eric Prydz remix of M83‘s ‘Midnight City.’ This isn’t your straightforward masher and it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. I hope you love it as much as I do, so without further ado I present my latest mix - ‘Midnight Diamond.’
The mix made it’s way to the Hype Machine, so pretty please head over there and click the ♥ icon for me! Keep up with all things Belanger on Facebook, Soundcloud andTwitter. My debut mix tape is very close to dropping so you’ll definitely want to be the first to know about it when it does!
M83 are gearing up to release the second single from the brilliant Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming album, and in advance of the release of the video we’ve been treated to a small teaser. The video picks up again with the mysterious children from the Midnight City video… what will they get up to this time?
Reunion has been given the remix treatment by Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Mylo, Sei A, The Naked And Famous, Polly Scattergood and White Sea. The package will be released on May 29th via Mute.

The Mylo remix of M83‘s latest single off Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming is pretty delicious. I can just hear it woven into mix tapes for months to come. You may remember the Scottish producer/remixer extrodinaire from his infectious dance singles In My Arms, Drop The Pressure and Dr. Pressure, or his work for Scissor Sisters, Dannii Minogue, Kylie Minogue, Amy Winehouse or The Knife…and the list goes on.
One of the more unique covers to surface this year comes from our favorite Brooklyn duo The Knocks. Midnight Run is their take on M83‘s haunting electro-pop track Midnight City. Vocals by Mandy Lee. We’re still playing out their Magic EP which you can stream in full here.
One of my favorite singles of ’11, Midnight City by M83 received many fantastic remixes including the Who Killed JR? and FIXYN reworks. Swedish DJ/producer extraordinaire Eric Prydz takes the reigns on this high energy club interpretation of the luscious electronic single which is classic Prydz.
