Tracey Thorn: Night Time (The XX cover) + ‘Swimming’ remixes

Tracey Thorn reunites with longtime collaborator Ben Watt for a cover of The XX‘s Night Time.

Thorn + Watt formed Everything But The Girl in the early 80′s and enjoyed a string of successful hits (our favorite being Missing of course) before moving on to their own projects. This is the duo’s first collaboration in 10 years. The super talented Ewan Pearson was brought in to program/mix/play drums on the track.

Night Time will be released on November 1 through Merge, and includes remixes of Thorn’s track Swimming by Visionquest and Charles Webster from her latest album Love & It’s Opposite. Stream it all below, and tell us what you think in the comments!

Well this is one classic that we hope never falls into oblivion!

The Todd Terry remix of Missing by Everything But The Girl, originally released in the 90′s is an absolute treat for the ears, so much so it is became the most widely known version of the song. A video was edited to that version as well, some of us didn’t even have a clue there was a more stripped down mix in the first place!

Who’d have thought in 2011 we’d see a Fedde Le Grand remix! If you love club music, this one’s for you! Lead singer Tracey Thorn is one of our absolute favorite artists, a voice like no other. - Matt

“I was inspired by the lyrics and mood of the record – the way family relationships can get more complicated and messed up with time. I found a stock photo – a family portrait – that was formal but also a bit decadent, and then just went to work on it. On her new album, Tracey Thorn confronts Love and It’s Opposite. We are given a sneak peak of the Ewan Pearson (love) produced album with the quiet and somber Oh, The Divorces! Definitely not the bass infused It’s All True or the minimal techno club excursion of Grand Canyon – two standout tracks from her preview release Out Of The Woods. This time around Thorn is releasing the album on partner Ben Watt’s Strange Feeling imprint. The duo were the masterminds that were Everything But The Girl, i’m sure you remember Missing! – Matt
