Elton John vs PNAU: Sad (The 2 Bears Remix)

I’ve had Sad, the collaboration between Elton John and PNAU on repeat for weeks now. This just-released remix via The 2 Bears should get you up and running today. Enjoy + so glad they used some of the original instrumentation, that horn arrangement is fantastic. Make sure to listen to the full album, a collection of re-imagined Elton John tracks touched by the glistening hand of Pnau’s electronic mastery.

Elton John vs Pnau: Sad

A friend reminded me of how very amazing Empire of the Sun were this weekend, and I was pleased to tell them about their latest outing: Elton John vs Pnau. Autralian duo PNAU, aka Nick Littlemore and Peter Mayes (Empire of the Sun) delivered Whenever, written and produced with Elton for Cirque du Soleil last year…and the collaboration didn’t end there.

Their latest project Good Morning To The Night under the moniker Elton John vs Pnau is a re-imagination of vintage tracks from the piano man himself. The project, officially blessed by the Sir received the video treatment today, featuring vintage Elton footage amidst a beautifully colored backdrop of city and sky.

Sad, the second single  following the title track which we shared a bit ago, fuzes together elements of Friends, Nice and Slow, Curtains, Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word, Nice and Slow and Crazy Water.

Loving the album art (above) for Good Morning To The Night, which drops July 17th.

Elton John vs Pnau: Good Morning To The Night

Australian electro pop mavens PNAU threw Elton John‘s Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters into a blender of sorts – reworking it into Good Morning To The Night.

The duo, comprised of Nick Littlemore of Empire of the Sun recently collaborated with the Sir on Whenever, a track from Cirque de Soleil’s Zarkana.

Sir Elton John receives his own orchid

Sir Elton John received a flower named in his honor at this year’s Orchid Conference in Singapore last week. The crocodile rocker, who is known for his love of flowers, was delighted with the gift, saying…

“We’ve had orchids in our home all the time, so it’ll be great to grow our own, so we’re going to do that. I have had a lupine named after me and even a rose but never an orchid and this is a great honour as I am an avid lover of gardens. Thank you for your kindness for this as it is an eloquent list of people I seem to have joined and this is indeed the most beautiful specimen of orchid.”

Elton attended the conference with partner David and their son Zachary, right before his own concert in the country. Congrats!

We think it’s about time for a new album, don’t you?

Kate Bush to release new single ‘Wild Man’

Kate Bush gears up for the release of 50 Words For Snow by announcing first single Wild Man, which premieres October 11 at midnight. She also revealed a very uninspiring single cover – what is that supposed to be up there? Ah, well.

I leave you with a Bush classic, and one of my favorites…Breathing.

50 Words For Snow will be released on November 21st, featuring collaborations with Elton John, Andy Fairweather Low and Stephen Fry.

Songs for Japan

Charity: Songs for Japan

Camille and I are always talking about how we want to make good use of the success we’ve built with Hard Candy, and here is the perfect opportunity for just that!

The devastation in Japan is beyond compare, and while people are suffering from day to day aside from this natural disaster, it’s important we support this charity and the relief effort in Japan.

The Songs for Japan digital album is only $10, and includes almost 40 tracks from most of our favorite artists including Madonna, Adele, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Sade, P!nk, Elton John, Norah Jones…the list goes on! I calculated that if all of our readers in just one day purchased the album, we’d be able to send over $100,000 in disaster relief funds! Now is the time for us to band together, guys!

I just purchased the album this morning, and we encourage you to do the same here. – Matt
