ELIOT x Hard Candy ‘Baby Rollerblade’ Mixtape

We’re so excited to premiere the latest in our Hard Candy X mixtape series, this time with Jessica 6 keyboardist and producer extraordinairre ELIOT. On this mix, it’s an all out dance affair. I originally played it for the first time at a party I hosted on my rooftop in Brooklyn, and everyone was love-ing-it! The cover shot was taken the next day on my roof, as a huge storm approached the city: he’s coming soon!

Based in Greece, ELIOT has expertly woven together current and past favorites from the likes of Bjork, Brandy, Madonna, Donna Summer, Midnight Magic, Rogue Vogue, Chris Malinchak and Saint Etienne. A prime cut on this mix comes in the form of NA/JET, which we exclusively premiered the mp3 of a few weeks ago.

ELIOT is busy in the studio, currently working with Nomi Ruiz on tracks for the new Jessica 6 album. He’s hinted at a possible change in direction for their next set!

Rest In Peace, Donna Summer

Donna Summer, the Queen of Disco as many aptly referred to her, passed away at the age of 63 after quietly suffering a battle with lung cancer. Donna defined the Disco era and consistently delivered quality music over the last 30+ years, releasing her last album Crayons in 2008. The word legend has never been so fitting as to describe an artist.

Donna leaves behind a distinct legacy, including a superb catalog of songs that inspired the sound of the 70′s and countless artists over the years. Some of our favorites are MacArthur Park, I Feel Love, On The Radio, Love Is In Control, I Got Your Love and This Time I Know It’s For Real.

Donna was working on an album of new material at the time of her death, and we’re saddened that was unable to complete it. We’ll remember her fondly through her music.

You gotta love YouTube, one minute you’re searching for something specific, the next you’ve spent an hour on there looking at random music videos! Well be thankful that I’m easily distracted because the moment we stumbled across this while pre-gaming (don’t ask) the other weekend I knew I had to post it! Check out the video for the classic Donna Summer track She Works Hard For The Money this really is comedy gold! they sure don’t make ‘em like this anymore! I think my favorite part is where Donna appears in the window, it’s between that or the dancing in the street at the end! The live version is pretty damn hilarious also!

My best friend sent me this on Friday afternoon just as I was gearing up for the weekend! Apparently it’s been floating around for a while but astoundingly it escaped my clutches and with Madonna & Donna Summer involved I should have been all up in that – so to speak! Anyway two of my new favorite people collectively known as The Gentlemen Thieves joined together and created this delightful set of Madonna vs Donna Summer mashups! For me the standout track is What It Feels Like For a Bad Girl I’ve seriously had this on repeat all weekend. I Feel Like a Virgin is also awesome and 4 Minutes (Is Enough) is essential listening if only for the random ‘SIMPLY BARBARA!’ shoutouts! It’s almost too much for me to take!

Is it any surprise that The Queen of Disco was born on New Years Eve one of the biggest party nights of the year!?!?! That’s right, today we want to celebrate not only the beginning of a new year but Donna Summer’s Bithday too! 
Donna has brought us some of the hugest dance hits ever from I Feel Love to I’m A Fire!  Today we thank you for all the glorious music that you have created that makes us shake our asses on the dance floor and want to wish Donna Summer a Happy Birthday! Hope it’s a great one :)
