On Saturday night, Grace Jones will make a welcome return to Roseland Ballroom in NYC. I’m ridiculously excited to see the show, she is one of the greatest live performers I’ve had the pleasure to see. The first time I saw her live back 2009 at Hammerstein Ballroom I was left utterly speechless by her powerful performance and off the charts stage presence.
It’s been 34 years since she last graced the stage at Roseland Ballroom. Back in 1978 on Halloween night she gave a truly memorable performance that left the audience with their hearts in their mouths. It was a short six song set put together by her long time collaborator Jean Paul Goude during which she sported an array of glorious costumes only she could pull off and got up to lots of outrageous antics.
I mean she’s shocking at the best of times, but when you place a live tiger on stage, dance around him, then open the cage door and dive in, that’s what I call a showstopper!
