I’ve been intrigued by Penguin Prison since hearing the mixes of Goldfrapp, Ellie Goulding, Erik Hassle & Marina and the Diamonds and more recently a couple of his own tracks (The Worse It Gets being the standout for me.) On Thursday night I headed down to Mercury Lounge to check out Chris Glover’s aka Penguin Prison’s first show in NYC.

The blogger massive was out in force ( Tastes Like Caramel, Sheena Beaston, The Culture Of Me, Punk Photo and Sup Magazine all in attendance) and the show was sold out – all on the strength of just a few tracks. I had high hopes for this show and I was not disappointed. Chris came out, dressed in what must be a favorite shirt (see promo pics lol) and as soon as he started to play you’d never have guessed this was his first show as Penguin Prison.  He gave a confident passionate performance – rousing a crowd that you’d never have guessed knew only a little of his work. Next up is a couple dates in London then back to play the Brooklyn Bowl – check him out! This was surely the start of something big for the Penguin….
